Softball Game Preview: Ferris Saxons vs. Mead Panthers

After both having extra time off, the Ferris Saxons and the Mead Panthers will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Ferris will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.

Ferris made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Shadle Park, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Saxons put the hurt on the Highlanders with a sharp 21-9 win last Thursday. With that victory, the Saxons brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.

The team relied heavily on Cadence Hyndman, who scored five runs and stole two bases while going 5-for-6. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times she's played. Jadyn Hatchitt was another key player, going a perfect 5-for-5 with three runs, three doubles, and three RBI.

Hyndman wasn't the only one making solid contact: Ferris kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 21 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Mead posted their closest win since May 17, 2024 last Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against University, sneaking past 11-9. The victory was familiar territory for the Panthers, who have now won three games in a row.

Mead's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Ferris, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-5-1.

Ferris skirted past Mead 6-5 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Do the Saxons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
