Basketball Recap: Harlan Takes a Loss

Harlan was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 47-41 heartbreaker at the hands of the Marshall Rams. The Hawks were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Rams earlier this season, when they won 55-41.

Despite the loss, Harlan still got an impressive performance from Jaliyah Graham, who went 5 for 9 en route to 14 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Another player making a difference was Jazelle Scott, who posted 13 points.

Even though they lost, Harlan smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive matchups.

Marshall found their leader in sophomore Lori Garcia, who had 21 points in addition to five assists and five boards. That's the most points Garcia has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jenell Flores, who earned nine points and six rebounds.

Harlan's record is now 11-14. As for Marshall, the win got them back to even at 13-13.

Harlan has already played their next game (against Holmes), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Marshall will square off against Brennan at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
