Softball Recap: Mooreville Wins Going Away Against Saltillo

Mooreville lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Saltillo, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Saturday's matchup. Mooreville put the hurt on Saltillo with a sharp 8-2 victory on Saturday. That looming 8-2 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Troopers yet this season.

Harper Benjamin was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Ella Grace Mitchell was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Another player making a difference was Alli Mclarty, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.

Mooreville is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. Saltillo's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-5-1.

Looking ahead, Mooreville will face off against Choctaw County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. We've got a battle between Tigers coming up. Nettleton will roll in looking for their 13th straight victory, something Saltillo surely won't give up without a fight.
