Basketball Recap: Goldsboro Continues Home Dominance on Monday

Goldsboro came tearing into Monday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victor by a 69-43 margin over the John Paul II Catholic Saints. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 43-22.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Goldsboro to victory, but perhaps none more so than Des'Myah Croom, who shot 4-for-6 from deep and dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 boards. What's more, Croom also racked up two blocks, the most she's had since back in December of 2023. Imari Buckom was another key player, going 6 for 7 on her way to 16 points.

Despite the loss, John Paul II Catholic still got an impressive performance from Aaliyah Hinnant, who posted 20 points and six steals. Hinnant's evening made it six games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ariana Atkinson, who went 5 of 12 on her way to 12 points.

Goldsboro pushed their record up to 8-1 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.9 points per game. As for John Paul II Catholic, with the loss, they broke their seven-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-1.

Goldsboro will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Wilson Prep at 5:30 p.m. on December 27th. As for John Paul II Catholic, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 61-18 victory against Bertie on the 10th.
