Basketball Recap: Mifflin Comes Up Short

Mifflin was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 20th straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a blow against the Columbus International Lions, falling 72-16. While losing is never fun, the Punchers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 799th, while the Lions are ranked 322nd).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Columbus International to victory, but perhaps none more so than Leila Carter, who shot 5-for-9 from long range and dropped a double-double on 30 points and 14 boards. Carter's evening made it eight games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Marley Benson, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 steals.

Mifflin's loss dropped their record down to 0-12. As for Columbus International, they pushed their record up to 15-4 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mifflin will venture away from home to take on Linden-McKinley at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Columbus International, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Columbus International Lions duke it out with the Beechcroft Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
