Baseball Game Preview: Irvine Vaqueros vs. Pacifica Mariners

The Irvine Vaqueros will be taking part in a tournament against the Pacifica Mariners at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Irvine 3.8, Pacifica 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Irvine's tournament run continued when they took on La Serna on Saturday. Irvine fell just short of La Serna by a score of 4-3. That's two games in a row now that the Vaqueros have lost by just one run.

Irvine saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Smith Spivey, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Spivey also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pacifica). They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Salem Hills 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Mariners have posted since February 21st.

This is the second loss in a row for Irvine and nudges their season record down to 7-9. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only one runs. As for Pacifica, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-11.
