Softball Recap: Hialeah-Miami Lakes Beats Goleman for Their Fifth Straight Victory

Hialeah-Miami Lakes made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Goleman, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Everything went the Hialeah-Miami Lakes Trojans' way against the Goleman Gators on Wednesday as the Hialeah-Miami Lakes Trojans made off with a 16-6 win. 16 seems to be a good number for the Trojans as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Marya Hicks was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Hicks was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in four of her seven plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cyeanna Delva, who scored four runs while getting on base in five of her nine plate appearances. Ashnelle Arias was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

The win (which was Hialeah-Miami Lakes' fifth in a row) raised their record to 7-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Goleman, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hialeah-Miami Lakes will venture away from home to challenge South Dade at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Goleman, they will head out to face off against Flanagan at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Flanagan has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.13 runs per game on average), something Goleman will no doubt try to take advantage of.
