Softball Recap: Newbury Park Has No Trouble Against West Ranch

Newbury Park was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against West Ranch on Wednesday. The Newbury Park Panthers were the clear victor by a 14-3 margin over the West Ranch Wildcats. Considering the Panthers have won three games by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Veronica Wasserman tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Hanna Porter was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Janessa Gutierrez, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Newbury Park always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .606. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Ranch only posted an OBP of .364.

Newbury Park's record now sits at 5-1. As for West Ranch, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-2.

Newbury Park has already played their next match, an 8-6 defeat against Simi Valley on the 27th. As for West Ranch, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 10-9 loss against Highland on the 1st.
