Basketball Preview: Turner Lions vs. Lone Star Rangers
Turner is 0-3 against the Rangers since January of 2023 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Turner Lions will head out on the road to challenge the Lone Star Rangers at 7:15 p.m. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Turner has struggled recently with ten losses in a row, while the Rangers will arrive with 18 straight wins.
Last Friday, Turner took a serious blow against the Trojans, falling 76-46. While losing is never fun, Turner can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 694th, while the Trojans are ranked 114th).
The losing side was boosted by Rodney Gray, who scored 18 points along with four steals. He hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Sahil Anand, who scored ten points.
The Colony typically has all the answers at home, but on Friday Lone Star proved too difficult a challenge. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Cougars 61-59. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Turner has not been sharp recently as the team's lost 11 of their last 14 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 15-13 record this season. As for Lone Star, they pushed their record up to 26-3 with that win, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Turner was dealt a bruising 74-21 defeat at the hands of the Rangers in their previous meeting back in January. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Turner was down 35-6.
