Softball Recap: North Central Snags Fourth Victory in Last Five Games

North Central hadn't done well against Chesterfield recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Knights came out on top against the Golden Rams by a score of 4-1. This was payback for the Knights, who suffered a 7-4 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Mackenzie Melton made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aubrey Taylor, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.

North Central has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Chesterfield, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. North Central will venture away from home to take on Buford at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Chesterfield, they will challenge Hartsville at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Golden Rams' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Red Foxes have averaged an impressive 9.4 runs per game this season.
