Basketball Game Preview: Lakewood Cougars vs. Meridian Trojans

The Lakewood Cougars will head out to square off against the Meridian Trojans at 7:15 p.m. on Saturday. Meridian took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Lakewood, who comes in off a win.

Lakewood can't be too worried about heading out to take on Meridian: they just beat Lummi at home, who had been dominant on their own court up to that point. Lakewood walked away with a 75-64 win over Lummi on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Meridian was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 62-56 to Lynden. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 63rd, while the Lions are ranked seventh).

Lakewood pushed their record up to 11-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Meridian, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-5.

Lakewood didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Meridian in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, but they still walked away with a 68-63 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lakewood since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
