The Oxbridge Academy ThunderWolves will head out on the road to face off against the Lake Placid Dragons at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Oxbridge Academy's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Lake Placid's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Last Wednesday, Oxbridge Academy earned a 6-1 win over Dr. Joaquin Garcia.
Aby Vital spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits.
At the plate, Ella Bianco was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Ila Trueblood was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lake Placid). They blew past Lakeland Christian 21-6 on Thursday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Emily Tharp made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs and four RBI. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hadlee Prescott, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kaylee Grigsby, who went 2-for-4 with five RBI, one run, and one double.
Lake Placid hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in four consecutive matches.
Oxbridge Academy is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games. Lake Placid pushed their record up to 5-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.
