Basketball Recap: Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine Takes a Loss

Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine lost against Cumberland on December 5th and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine took a blow against the Cumberland Pirates, falling 66-26. While losing is never fun, Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 522nd, while Cumberland is ranked 258th).

Despite the loss, Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine had strong showings from Genna Kidwell, who posted eight points along with five boards and three steals, and Alyssa Tipton, who had eight points. Kidwell has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 26 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Emily Rachoy, who earned two points and eight rebounds.

Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season. As for Cumberland, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 11-3.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Marshall the next time they take the court. Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine will head out to face Marshall at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, while Cumberland will play them later in the day, at TBD.
