Basketball Game Preview: Walden Grove Red Wolves vs. Rio Rico Hawks

Walden Grove is 0-10 against Rio Rico since January of 2020 but things could change on Tuesday. The Walden Grove Red Wolves will be playing in front of their home fans against the Rio Rico Hawks at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Walden Grove took a loss when they played away from home back in December of 2024, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed back in December of 2024. They breezed by Empire to the tune of 71-15. With the Red Wolves ahead 40-10 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Meanwhile, Rio Rico couldn't have asked for a better start to 2025 than the 55-25 blowout they got against Grand Canyon. Given the Hawks' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 79th, while the Phantoms are ranked 221st), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Walden Grove is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.6 points per game. As for Rio Rico, their victory bumped their record up to 7-3.

Walden Grove took a serious blow against Rio Rico in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 80-21. Can Walden Grove avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
