5A Region II District 15 recap Oct. 3, 2012
Del Valle moved up to 444 from 566 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 5A Region II District 15. The Cardinals climbed the ranks as a result of a 35-3 win over Akins.
Lake Travis suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after a 14-7 loss to Lake Travis. The Cavaliers had been ranked 22nd, but fell to 37 following the defeat.
Lake Travis' dynamic duo of Baker Mayfield and Tyler Payne proved tough for Austin to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Mayfield threw for 113 yards and one touchdown and Payne had 67 yards receiving.
Josh Cleveland was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 185 yards on 21 carries as Del Valle beat the Maroons. Chris Campbell also contributed to the rushing game with 74 yards on the ground.
The Cavaliers' Mayfield and Zach Austin have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-2 quarterback Mayfield has thrown for 1295 yards this season, while Austin has 17 catches for 428 yards. Courtney Wash's team's Cleveland leads the league in rushing yards with 723.
A big matchup in 5A Region II District 15 this week will be when Bowie takes on Lake Travis. At the moment, the Bulldogs are in third, while the Cavaliers are in first.
The Cardinals took down the Eagles 35-3 last week, the largest margin of any game. Cleveland in the win.
