Softball Recap: Desert Edge Scorpions vs. Verrado Vipers

Desert Edge had lost seven straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 1-4 to make it eight. They came up short against the Verrado Vipers, falling 19-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vipers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-0 on Tuesday.

As for Verrado, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 8-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games.

For Verrado's part, Jill Ryan made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Ryan has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2025.

In other batting news, Verrado got a massive performance out of Nevaeh Stell, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Faith Grabau, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

Looking ahead, Desert Edge will host North Canyon at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Rattlers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15 runs per game on average), something the Scorpions will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Verrado, they will take on Piedra Vista in a tournament on Thursday.
