Baseball Game Preview: Cheraw Braves vs. Lee Academy Cavaliers

The Cheraw Braves will be taking part in a tournament against the Lee Academy Cavaliers at 10:30 a.m. on Monday. Cheraw is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.

While Cheraw's victory against Chesterfield wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Braves skirted past the Golden Rams 7-6.

Brayden Michael made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. He also put up a triple, which was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Nick Gordon was incredible, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (two). Anthony Strong was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Lee Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road back in March. Their pitchers stepped up to hand King's Academy a 15-0 shutout back in March. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Cavaliers considering their one-run performance the match before.

Cheraw's win bumped their record up to 13-3. As for Lee Academy, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.

Cheraw took their win against Lee Academy in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 10-1 score. Will the Braves repeat their success, or do the Cavaliers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
