Softball Recap: Bakersfield Triumphs

Bakersfield saw some tournament action on Saturday. They walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Porterville Panthers. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Drillers.

Serenity Hernandez-Alvidrez was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Aniyah Gordon, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Hernandez-Alvidrez wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Bakersfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matches.

Bakersfield's win bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Porterville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.

Bakersfield and Porterville could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Drillers (ranked 569th) will meet Highland (ranked 120th) at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Porterville will take on Redwood at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (674 vs. 60).
