Basketball Recap: Valley Christian Vikings vs. St. Vincent de Paul Mustangs
Valley Christian and St. Vincent de Paul squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Valley Christian had to settle for second. They came up short against the St. Vincent de Paul Mustangs, falling 72-50. The matchup was a close 29-27 at the break, but unfortunately for the Vikings it sure didn't stay that way.
St. Vincent de Paul found their leader in sophomore Dylan Chelew, who went 8-for-13 to rack up 22 points and five boards. That's the most points Chelew has posted since back in December of 2024. Roman Yusupov was another key player, going 5-for-11 on his way to 13 points and five rebounds.
Valley Christian dropped their record down to 8-16 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.7 points over those games. As for St. Vincent de Paul, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-10 record this season.
Valley Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for St. Vincent de Paul, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Point Arena at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
