Baseball Recap: Fairmont Takes a Loss

Fairmont was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the Troy Trojans. The Firebirds were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Trojans apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Skyler Slifer was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three runs. He has become a key player for Fairmont: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 9-15 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Dillon Johnson, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Fairmont's loss dropped their record down to 13-16. As for Troy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-8 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fairmont will square off against Tippecanoe at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Troy, they will face off against Beavercreek at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
