Baseball Game Preview: Wabash Apaches vs. Carroll Cougars

The Wabash Apaches will challenge the Carroll Cougars at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Carroll took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Wabash, who comes in off a win.

Wabash is headed out to face Carroll after opening their season at home and giving their fans just what they were looking for. The Apaches had just enough and edged out Mississinewa 4-3 on Thursday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Mackey Sorg made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Sorg was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Derek Reed, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jacob White, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Carroll was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 9-2 to Lewis Cass. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Cougars couldn't push the score so high this time.

Travis Tinsman was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. Landon Hammond also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Wabash suffered a grim 9-2 defeat to Carroll in their previous meeting back in May of 2022. Can the Apaches avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
