Recap: Woodruff Wolverines vs. Chesnee Eagles
Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up eight more assists than your opponent, a fact the Woodruff Wolverines proved on Wednesday. They blew past Chesnee 56-19 at home. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 37-11.
Sadie Burnette continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, shooting 4-for-8 from deep and dropping a double-double on 24 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Woodruff's points. Another player making a difference was Jordan Robinson, who scored 12 points along with 5 steals.
Despite the defeat, Chesnee saw an underclassman step up: Olivia Tolleson scored 9 points along with 5 rebounds. Tolleson is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Pearl Holloway was another key contributor, scoring 3 points along with 11 rebounds.
The win makes it two in a row for Woodruff and bumps their season record up to 3-1. As for Chesnee, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Woodruff will challenge Fountain Inn at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Fountain Inn focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Thursday. Chesnee will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against East Rutherford at 6:00 p.m. on December 1st. Hopefully East Rutherford focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 last Tuesday.
