Softball Recap: Canterbury Crusaders vs. Largo Packers

Canterbury had lost three straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 6-12 to make it four. They lost 17-2 to the Largo Packers. The Crusaders were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Packers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Canterbury saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lourdes Guzman, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

As for Largo, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 15-5. Considering they have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

On Largo's side, Laila Weber was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Weber has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

In other batting news, Largo got a massive performance out of Miranda Rollins, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, two triples, and one double. Claire Meloy was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Canterbury will welcome Dunedin at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Falcons' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Crusaders' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Largo, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Tarpon Springs at 7:00 p.m. The Spongers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.59 runs per game on average), something the Packers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
