Volleyball Recap: Kacee Chaney's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Mercer over Hurley

Mercer was the 2-0 winner over Hurley when they last played one another back in October of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Tigers took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Northstars on Monday. The Tigers' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it four in a row.

Mercer started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 23-25, 25-20, 26-24, 26-24.

Mercer's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kacee Chaney, who had 14 kills, three digs, three aces, and one block. Another player making a difference was Ryley Saarnio, who had seven kills, seven digs, three blocks, and two aces.

Mercer's loss dropped their record down to 3-17. As for Hurley, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Mercer will face off against rival Lac Courte Oreilles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Hurley is set to square off against their familiar foe Solon Springs at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday.
