Baseball Recap: Austin-East Sets Scoring Season-High Against Cosby

Austin-East extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 27 on Monday, dropping their season record down to 0-20 in the process. They came up short against the Cosby Eagles, falling 25-16. On the bright side, the 16- run effort marked the Roadrunners' highest-scoring game to date.

Austin-East got a massive performance out of Nymire Jackson, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those RBI were Jackson's first of the season. Michael Gladney was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.

As for Cosby, their win ended a ten-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-17-1. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their one-run performance the contest before.

On Cosby's side, Gage McCarty was a standout: he got on base in all six of his plate appearances with three runs and four RBI. Those four RBI gave McCarty a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Tanner Barnes, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Austin-East will host Hancock County at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Cosby, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Apostolic Christian at 5:30 p.m. Apostolic Christian has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.4 runs per game on average), something Cosby will no doubt try to take advantage of.
