Baseball Recap: Muncie Central's Losing Streak Snapped at Five Games

Muncie Central's game on Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They came out on top against the Marion Giants by a score of 7-4. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Bearcats as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Logan Campbell made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over 6.2 innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. He has become a key player for Muncie Central: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 0-9 otherwise.

Campbell wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Aaron Coggeshall, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI. That's the most hits Coggeshall has posted over his last 11 matches. Trey Michelini also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Muncie Central's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 2-10. As for Marion, they are on a 12-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10.

Muncie Central and Marion could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. The Bearcats will take on Delta at 5:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (332 vs. 90). Meanwhile, Marion (ranked 342nd) will meet Madison-Grant (ranked 123rd) at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
