Preview: Navajo Prep Eagles vs. Newcomb Skyhawks
The Navajo Prep Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Newcomb Skyhawks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Mexico (Navajo Prep is ranked 84th, while Newcomb is ranked 83rd).
Navajo Prep fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They came out on top against Tohatchi by a score of 32-20 on Friday.
Meanwhile, you can't lose the contest if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Newcomb's strategy against Zuni on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Newcomb blew Zuni out of the water with a 40-6 final score. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Newcomb had established a 32 point advantage.
Dion Lee was the offensive standout of the matchup as he rushed for 183 yards and two touchdowns. Landon Noble and his 80 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Newcomb's victory.
Navajo Prep's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Newcomb, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 4-5 record this season.
Navajo Prep was dealt a bruising 46-12 loss at the hands of Newcomb in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Can Navajo Prep avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
