Basketball Recap: Friday's Loss Ends Holdrege's Winning Streak

After flying high against Minden last Tuesday, Holdrege came back down to earth. The Holdrege Dusters fell 69-58 to the Cozad Haymakers on Friday. The Dusters' loss signaled the end of their nine-game winning streak.

Holdrege's loss came despite strong showings from Garret Johnson and Landon Hartzog. Johnson went 11 for 20 en route to 26 points, while Hartzog almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine boards. The matchup was Johnson's 18th in a row with at least ten points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cozad to victory, but perhaps none more so than Noah Shoemaker, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 13 points in addition to six assists and three steals. Those six assists gave Shoemaker a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chayden Hoffmaster, who went 9 for 16 en route to 18 points and five rebounds.

Holdrege's defeat dropped their record down to 15-3. As for Cozad, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 16-2.

Holdrege has already played their next game, a 79-54 win against Gothenburg on the 1st. As for Cozad, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 66-61 victory against Ogallala on the 1st.
