Baseball Recap: Mesa Jackrabbits vs. Valley Vista Monsoon

Mesa was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They wound up on the wrong side of a rough 9-2 walloping at the hands of the Valley Vista Monsoon. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Mesa of the 7-5 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2023.

Luke Hilton made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

On Valley Vista's side, Elijah White spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on five hits. White has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive pitching appearances.

At the plate, Rylie Hanson was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with a home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Elias Garza, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.

Mesa's loss dropped their record down to 6-19. As for Valley Vista, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 10-13-1.

Mesa will take on Skyline at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Valley Vista, they will head out on the road to take on Cesar Chavez at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Valley Vista is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road.
