Softball Game Preview: Northgate Flames vs. Bishop Canevin Crusaders

Northgate is 0-3 against Bishop Canevin since April of 2015 but things could change on Monday. Northgate will be playing in front of their home fans against Bishop Canevin at 6:00 p.m. Northgate is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.

If Northgate beats Bishop Canevin with 15 runs on Monday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. Everything went Northgate's way against Rochester on Friday as Northgate made off with a 15-3 win. The Flames haven't had any issues with the Rams recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Johna Abramowicz made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Abramowicz was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gracie Auth, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.4 stolen bases per game. Bayleigh Hooper was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Northgate always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .727. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.

Meanwhile, Bishop Canevin was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 15-0 to Chartiers-Houston. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Crusaders' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Bishop Canevin's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Northgate, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
