Cleveland has gone 8-2 against Clayton recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Rams will take on the Comets at 7:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Cleveland sitting on 15 straight victories and Clayton on six.
Clayton's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Tuesday: Cleveland hadn't allowed a single run the last five times they've hit the field. The Rams didn't even let Smithfield-Selma on the board on Friday, marking the Rams' second-straight 15-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won 13 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Clayton). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Southeast Raleigh a 20-0 shutout on Friday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Izzy Tart made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one double.
In other batting news, Delaney Maynard was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Mallory Kuykendall was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI.
Clayton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Cleveland's record now sits at 15-2. As for Clayton, their record is now 15-3.
Cleveland got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in March against Clayton by a conclusive 11-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rams since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
