Preview: King George Foxes vs. James Monroe Yellow Jackets
The King George Foxes just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the James Monroe Yellow Jackets at 6:30 p.m. on February 9th. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard on Friday.
On Thursday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, King George beat Culpeper County 64-59. The victory was just what King George needed coming off of a 64-35 defeat in their prior game.
Colson Clary was his usual excellent self, going 7 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 21 points and 0 assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Trulow, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds.
In what's become a running theme this season, James Monroe gave their fans yet another huge win on Tuesday. They breezed by Spotsylvania on the road to the tune of 73-38. Given James Monroe's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 136th, while Spotsylvania is ranked 424th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
James Monroe's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Makel Minor, who scored 24 points. Another player making a difference was Michael Edwards, who scored 19 points.
King George's record now sits at 5-16. James Monroe's record is now 16-5.
King George came up short against James Monroe when the teams last played last Thursday, falling 74-65. Can King George avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
