Basketball Recap: Rodney Holmes Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat South Dade

South Dade typically has all the answers at home, but on Friday Homestead proved too difficult a challenge. They walked away with a 61-52 win over the South Dade Buccaneers. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 61-41 back in December of 2024.

Homestead's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Rodney Holmes led the charge by dropping a double-double on 15 points and 20 rebounds. Holmes is crushing it when it comes to boards: he's pulled down at least ten every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jaiden Horton, who went 6 for 11 on his way to 21 points and three steals.

Homestead smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in 43 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Homestead has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.7 points per game. As for South Dade, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 9-9 record.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Homestead will venture away from home to challenge Palmetto at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Homestead is facing Palmetto at the right time seeing as Palmetto is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for South Dade, they will head out to square off against Ferguson at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Ferguson will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something South Dade surely won't give up without a fight.
