Softball Recap: Sumner Comes Up Short

Sumner fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Durant on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 4-3. The Stingrays have struggled against the Cougars recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Aliyanis Stubbs spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Victoria Rudolph was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Ava Cater, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.

Sumner's loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Durant, their win bumped their record up to 7-5.

Sumner wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 5-4 victory against Plant on the 26th. As for Durant, they have also already played their next matchup, an 18-3 win against Strawberry Crest on the 26th.
