Basketball Recap: Sylva Bay Academy Saints vs. Laurel Christian Lions
While the Sylva Bay Academy Saints couldn't quite beat the Laurel Christian Lions on Friday, the two-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 28-point loss they were dealt on Thursday. Sylva Bay Academy fell just short of the Lions by a score of 47-45. Sylva Bay Academy has not had much luck with the Lions recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Sylva Bay Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lily Hatcher, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Reese Shumock, who scored eight points along with six rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Laurel Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Emma Risher, who scored 13 points. Jaylyn Holifield was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Sylva Bay Academy has not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-12 record this season. As for Laurel Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-13 record this season.
Sylva Bay Academy is on the road again on Wednesday and plays the Eagles at 7:45 p.m. on February 7th. Porter's Chapel Academy is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. Laurel Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
