Preview: Plainfield Quakers vs. Franklin Community Grizzly Cubs
The Plainfield Quakers will be playing at home against the Franklin Community Grizzly Cubs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Friday, Plainfield came up short against Greenwood and fell 65-58. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Plainfield came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 46th, while Greenwood is ranked 208th).
Despite the defeat, Plainfield got a solid performance out of Collin Schmidt, who scored 23 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Smith, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Franklin Community only won by two when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 43-point they dealt Perry Meridian on Friday. Franklin Community took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 67-24 win over Perry Meridian. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Franklin Community.
It was another big night for Wyatt Nickleson, who scored 17 points. Another player making a difference was Grant Hunter, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Plainfield's defeat dropped their record down to 13-7. As for Franklin Community, their victory bumped their record up to 15-3.
Friday's match is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Plainfield have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 48.4% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Franklin Community struggles in that department as they've made 49.9% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Plainfield strolled past Franklin Community in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 by a score of 57-41. Does Plainfield have another victory up their sleeve, or will Franklin Community turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
