Baseball Recap: Argo Triumphs

While Argo's win against Blue Island Eisenhower wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Argonauts sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Cardinals on Monday. That's two games straight that the Argonauts have won by just one run.

Cristo Fernandez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Argo saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Valente Melero, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Those two hits gave Melero a new career-high.

The win made it two in a row for Argo and bumps their season record up to 5-10. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Blue Island Eisenhower, they now have a losing record of 7-8.

Argo will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Cardinals: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
