Baseball Game Preview: St. Charles East Fighting Saints vs. Wheaton North Falcons

For the second straight game, St. Charles East will face off against Wheaton North. The Fighting Saints will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against the Falcons at 4:30 p.m. St. Charles East will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

While St. Charles East's victory against Wheaton North wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Fighting Saints skirted past the Falcons 4-2. That's two games straight that the Fighting Saints have won by exactly two runs.

Joey Arend made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Arend was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs.

In other pitching news, Matthew Steinberg looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Michael Aloisio, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Andrew Zolna was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

St. Charles East's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-6. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Wheaton North, their loss dropped their record down to 6-9-1.
