Basketball Recap: Heights Piles Up the Points Against Houston Math Science & Tech

Heights won the last time they faced Houston Math Science & Tech and things went their way on Saturday too. The Heights Bulldogs breezed by the Houston Math Science & Tech Tigers to the tune of 71-25. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 279th, while the Tigers are ranked 1190th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Heights' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Micah Malone led the charge by dropping a double-double on 13 points and ten steals. That's the most points Malone has posted since back in November of 2024. Eric Ekwegbara was another key player, going 9 for 12 en route to 19 points.

Heights is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a massive bump to their 18-12 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 45.2 points. As for Houston Math Science & Tech, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-19 record this season.

Heights and Westside will meet in a dog eat dog contest at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Heights is on a three-game streak of home wins, Westside a five-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Houston Math Science & Tech, they will challenge Bellaire at 12:30 p.m. on February 8th.
