The Cornerstone Charter Cardinals will square off against the Southwest Guilford Cowboys at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Cornerstone Charter's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Carver as Cornerstone Charter made off with a 15-0 victory. The Cardinals haven't had any issues with the Yellowjackets recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
The team relied heavily on Evie Hill, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Olivia Croatt, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
Cornerstone Charter hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Southwest Guilford). They were the clear victor by a 24-1 margin over Grimsley on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Stevee Kendrick was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Amelia Stewart was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Makayla Stefanik was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
The win got Cornerstone Charter back to even at 3-3. As for Southwest Guilford, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-4.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Cornerstone Charter has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .476. However, it's not like Southwest Guilford struggles in that department as they've averaged .521. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Cornerstone Charter might still be hurting after the 19-6 loss they got from Southwest Guilford in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can Cornerstone Charter avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
