Baseball Game Preview: Seffner Christian Crusaders vs. Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate Phoenix

The Seffner Christian Crusaders will face off against the Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate Phoenix at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Seffner Christian will be strutting in after a win while Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate will be coming in after a loss.

Seffner Christian took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They came out on top against Shorecrest Prep by a score of 11-6. The Crusaders haven't had any issues with the Chargers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Tyler Tate looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.

On the hitting side, Kris Colondres was a standout: he scored two runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jenuel Ortiz, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Seffner Christian hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Shorecrest Prep struck out eight times.

Meanwhile, Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against Tampa Catholic, falling 18-1.

Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Seffner Christian, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Seffner Christian's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's match. Seffner Christian has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Seffner Christian continue to outrun the ball?

Seffner Christian was able to grind out a solid victory over Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, winning 8-3.
