Recap: Weeki Wachee Hornets vs. Lecanto Panthers

The Weeki Wachee Hornets struggled with assists on Thursday (the Lecanto Panthers had 21 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Weeki Wachee took a serious blow against the Panthers, falling 86-43. While losing is never fun, Weeki Wachee can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 579th, while the Panthers are ranked 201st).

Weeki Wachee lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Isaac Priester, who scored 16 points. Another player making a difference was Matthew Hazivasilis, who scored six points along with six rebounds.

Leading Lecanto to victory were Jt Tipton and Braylen Moore. Tipton dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten assists, while Moore scored 25 points along with seven assists. Moore has been hot recently, having posted 16 or more points the last three times he's played. Caden Moore was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with three steals.

Weeki Wachee has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season. As for Lecanto, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-4.

Weeki Wachee will head out on the road to face off against the Pirates at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lecanto, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th. One thing working in Springstead's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last seven matches.
