Basketball Recap: Flagler Palm Coast Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Nateshawn Royal and Jasiah Sanders

Flagler Palm Coast was the 56-48 winner over Matanzas when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The matchup between the Flagler Palm Coast Bulldogs and the Matanzas Pirates didn't end well, with the Flagler Palm Coast Bulldogs falling 53-36.

Jasiah Sanders and Nateshawn Royal certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Sanders posted six points and nine boards, while Royal earned ten points. Royal continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played.

Even though they lost, Flagler Palm Coast smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Matanzas' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nathaniel Perry led the charge by going 7 for 10 en route to 20 points and five rebounds. That's the most points Perry has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Alexander Davis, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 20 boards.

Flagler Palm Coast's loss dropped their record down to 12-9. As for Matanzas, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a massive bump to their 11-8 record this season.

Flagler Palm Coast wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 71-67 win against Westside on the 24th. As for Matanzas, they will venture away from home to square off against Menendez at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Matanzas is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.6 points per game this season.
