The Bonduel Bears will face off against the Iola-Scandinavia Thunderbirds at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Bonduel is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.
Bonduel proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by ten) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 win over Wittenberg-Birnamwood. The game was the first time the Bears have beaten the Chargers on their field since April 25, 2019.
Kallie Wilcox looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Tatum Sporisky, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those stolen bases marked the first that she has snagged this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Rank, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
Bonduel kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Iola-Scandinavia's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a 10-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of Wittenberg-Birnamwood. Thunderbirds fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Chargers since on Thursday.
Iola-Scandinavia saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maya Munoz, who went 3-for-4 with one run.
Bonduel's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Iola-Scandinavia, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Bonduel hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .449. However, it's not like Iola-Scandinavia struggles in that department as they've averaged .362. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
