Football Recap: Dynamic Duo of Landon Cook and Andrew Field Lead St. Marys to Victory

St. Marys gave up the first points on Friday, but they didn't give up any more after. They walked away with a 24-14 win over the Brookville Raiders. That's more bragging rights for the Flying Dutch, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Andrew Field and Landon Cook. Field rushed for 220 yards and one score while picking up 7.6 yards per carry while Cook rushed for 100 yards and a pair of TDs on only 13 carries. Those 220 rushing yards gave Field a new career-high.

St. Marys' run defense was locked in: Brookville could only muster two yards per carry. The team can thank Cody Thompson for the heroic effort on defense: he. St. Marys didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 6.8.

Despite the loss, Brookville still got an impressive performance from Trenton Colgan, who threw for 129 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 48 yards.

St. Marys' first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Brookville, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

St. Marys wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 32-22 win against Ridgway/Johnsonburg on the 12th. As for Brookville, they have also already played their next matchup, a 21-14 loss against Brockway on the 12th.
