Softball Recap: Concordia Continues Road Dominance on Thursday

Concordia barely beat Northwest the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Concordia put the hurt on Northwest with a sharp 14-1 win on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Fighting Orioles, who have now won five games by six runs or more so far this season.

Olivia Hemme made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Ava Mueller and Addition Roepe did most of the damage at the plate: Mueller went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI, while Roepe went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most hits Mueller has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Emily Wilkens, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Concordia kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in five consecutive matches.

Concordia's victory was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.4 runs over those games. As for Northwest, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Concordia will head out to square off against Cole Camp at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Northwest, they will challenge Versailles at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Versailles will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
