Basketball Recap: Staten Island Academy's Luck Changes for the Better on Saturday

Staten Island Academy had to endure a seven-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. They put the hurt on the Summit Academy Eagles with a sharp 47-25 win on Saturday. The Tigers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Eagles, too.

Summit Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alana Rivers, who posted 11 points and seven boards. Rivers is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played.

Staten Island Academy's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Summit Academy, the loss snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 14-7 record.

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Staten Island Academy Tigers take on the Columbia Prep Lions at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Summit Academy, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Varsity Opponent at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday.
