Basketball Recap: Oakwood Academy Mustangs vs. St. John Paul II Falcons
If the Oakwood Academy Mustangs were riding high off their 105-54 takedown of the Valley Head Tigers last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Oakwood Academy took a 72-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Falcons on Thursday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
When it comes to explaining why Oakwood Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Will Lewis. Despite the final result, he scored 16 points along with six rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniel Jones, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Oakwood Academy has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-15 record this season. As for St. John Paul II, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-9 record this season.
Oakwood Academy will take on the Panthers at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday. Woodville and the Mustangs are at an even 3-3 over their past six head-to-heads. As for St. John Paul II, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Westminster Christian Academy has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since January 6.
