Basketball Game Preview: San Antonio Memorial Minutemen vs. Cuero Gobblers

San Antonio Memorial is 0-5 against Cuero since December of 2022 but things could change on Tuesday. The San Antonio Memorial Minutemen will challenge the Cuero Gobblers at 6:30 p.m.

San Antonio Memorial is headed into Tuesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their eighth straight game on Friday. They were dealt a 68-23 loss at the hands of La Vernia. While losing is never fun, the Minutemen can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1505th, while the Bears are ranked 338th).

Meanwhile, Cuero waltzed into their contest on Friday with 12 straight wins... but they left with 13. They breezed by the Apaches to the tune of 68-33. The Gobblers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 games by 20 points or more this season.

San Antonio Memorial better keep an eye on Arissa Carbonara. She was instrumental in Cuero's win, almost dropping a double-double on 23 points and nine steals. Carbonara has been hot for a while, having also posted eight or more boards the last 16 times she's played. Mauryana Dasilva was another key player, going 8 for 14 on her way to 17 points and six steals.

Cuero smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in six consecutive matches.

Cuero is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 15 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 26-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.5 points per game. As for San Antonio Memorial, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-21.

San Antonio Memorial was dealt a bruising 71-5 loss at the hands of Cuero in their previous matchup on January 10th. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Carbonara, who dropped a triple-double on 18 points, 14 rebounds, and ten steals.
