Calera is 9-1 against Chilton County since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Tigers at 5:00 p.m. The last four games Calera has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Tuesday, Calera sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 win over Benjamin Russell.
Stella Schilleci spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Calera got a big performance out of Megan Overton, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2. That's the most runs Overton has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Mia Wade, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Chilton County has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 4.03 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Holtville, sneaking past 14-12. The game was the first time the Tigers have beaten the Bulldogs on their field since April 12, 2021.
Macey Pierce was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Avree Williams was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Chilton County lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
The victory made it two in a row for Chilton County and bumps their season record up to 28-6-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Calera, they pushed their record up to 6-16 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.
Calera came out on top in a nail-biter against Chilton County in their previous meeting back in March, sneaking past 7-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
